Camp Gallipoli- Dawn Service

Week 1 Term 2

16 very lucky students were chosen to be part of SPSs 'Camp Gallipoli' last Friday night; a camp set up to commemorate the 100th Centenary of ANZAC day.

On Friday the 24th April the 16 students took part in lots of cool activities- they made their own poppies out of felt, they kept a 'soldier' diary throughout the camp, they ate hardtack and a traditional dinner from 1914, they played games like pick-up-sticks, jacks and marbles; and they also watched 'Gallipoli' the movie.

Then at 4 am on Saturday morning all the students along with Whaea Emma, Mrs McGarry and other parents and teachers, drove down to the Auckland Domain to take part in the official Dawn Service. It was a very special day and we all felt so very lucky to be part of such a special event in honor of all the soldiers who fought and died 100 years ago.

Big thank you to Whaea Emma for making the camp possible :)

ANZAC Assembly

Week 1 Term 2

Hi everyone and welcome back to another awesome term!

This week we have continued our inquiry on from the first term to coincide with the 100th Centenary of ANZAC day. This week we looked closely at the story of the ANZACs and their efforts in WW1.

On Friday we held our own 'Dawn Service' in the hall. It was a really powerful ceremony where each class lay a remembrance wreath beside the cenotaph.

Each student in room 16 made their own poppy and wrote a special message on it for the ANZAC soldiers.
All the poppies were attached to our wreath.

Special guests also lay a wreath and spoke to the school.
