Fitness Equipment Designs

Week 7 Term 4

All term room 19 has been learning about forces and motion and how they apply to exercising. From knowledge gained students chose to work by themselves, in pairs or in small groups to design a piece of exercise equipment to work the abdominal muscles. They then made miniature models of their designs and all of Te Manawa voted on their favourite models. The models voted the best will be then made into life sized equipment to be used by all SPS students around the field.

Here are room 19s awesome models:

Google Exhibition

Week 4 Term 4

On Wednesday Google came to our school and each class from years 3 to 8 got to experience several 'Google Exhibitions'; that is where each student put on a pair of 3D goggles and went on a virtual reality adventure- some swam with sharks, some students rock climbed steep cliffs while others explored the Brazilian rain forest.

It was an awesome experience- isn't it amazing at how advanced and exciting modern technology is getting!

Exercises, exercises, we must do our exercises!

Week 3 and 4 Term 4

For the past two weeks, the students of room 19 have worked in groups of 4 to devise a set of exercises that work the abdominal muscles, chest and back muscles and our arm and leg muscles. Each group demonstrated and taught their exercises to the rest of the class and then everyone gave them a go. Students were not allowed to use any equipment other than the ground or a partner. The exercises were original and quite challenging, many students came to school the following days with sore muscles, which just goes to show that the exercises were effective!
